THE BEAUTY AND THE DEVIL

By 13th July 2016Performer

A duo performance by Stuart Lynch & Frank van de Ven about beauty, choice and the devil. This dance theatre work has played in Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Holland (original title Bodweather Interface). Referencing the dissonant qualities of Kant and South-Park these two award winning performers explore the platform of identity, trust, betrayal, tenderness, love and hate. Their shared history of Bodyweather and Butoh guarantee that, ‘The Beauty and The Devil’, at 60 minutes, does not disappoint.

“Whereas the beautiful is limited, the sublime is limitless, so that the mind in the presence of the sublime, attempting to imagine what it cannot, has pain in the failure but pleasure in contemplating the immensity of the attempt”  Immanuel Kant – Critique of Pure Reason

“But because humans have progressed and now have access to all the shit they want whenever they want it, it’s easy for them to overdo and have dopamine problems. You know, it’s not fuckin’ rocket science, this stuff.”  Satan – South Park, Episode 6, Season 18

FRANK VAN DE VEN performs, directs and teaches Body Weather in Europe, USA, New Zealand and Australia. He worked from 1983 to 1992 with Min Tanaka and the Maijuku Performance Company in Japan. In 1993, he founded with Katerina Bakatsaki Body Weather Amsterdam (http://bodyweatheramsterdam.blogspot.com) as a platform for training and performance. He is considered one of the world leading exponents of the system, ‘Body Weather’.
